The Affordable Care Act

Since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, many components have gone into effect that are giving families, individuals and the uninsured better access to quality, affordable health care.   Starting today, October 1, 2013, individuals are now able to start their applications for Marketplace insurance.

This is great news for individuals with pre-existing conditions, such as blood cancer, who could currently be denied coverage based on their health status. The new law helps to ensure that those with cancer can no longer

  • Be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions
  • Be charged more for their coverage because of health status
  • Be faced with annual or lifetime coverage limits that cause a sudden termination of care
  • Have to choose between saving their life or their life savings because they lack access to affordable coverage

At The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), our goal is to help provide information and direct those who seek further clarification to the right places.  To learn more regarding your options, visit https://www.healthcare.gov or http://www.coveredca.com
