Team Stanford raises over $46,000

Stanford_cancer center logoStanford Cancer Center completed its second corporate team sponsorship with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training  (TNT).   Seventeen committed Team Stanford members finished an awesome season by completing an endurance event (triathlon, century/metric century+ ride, marathon, half marathon or 10K) with TNT, and collectively raising over $46,000 for blood cancer research and patient support!

Members of Team Stanford included participants from SHC and across the campus:  Laura Adams, Angie Banez, Erin Bisetti, Vera Blume, Kim Bullock, Marta Cieslak , Sonni Doran, Natalie Geeter, Whitney Greene, Ivan Hernandez, Mary Lou Jackson, Katie Janaszek, Laura Hill, Julie Kuznetsov, Ashley Lauderman, Michael Merry and Susan Trainor.  While some participants are seasoned TNT alumni, many others were participating in their first-ever endurance event, and all of them crossed their finish line!

Back in April I met Chris and his wife and I found out that he went to the doctor after and was diagnosed with leukemia so I dedicated my ride to him. On Friday I will give him the medal I got at the finish line hoping that God and medicine do a miracle soon.” Ivan successfully planned a Bowl-a-thon event, bringing in the majority of his fundraising dollars.

Through social events for team members to gather after work, Team Stanford shared their individual fundraising ideas such as email campaigns, social media outreach, cookie bake sales, and event fundraisers with each other. The camaraderie at the workouts and at work certainly helped build collaboration to support each other in their events and in their successful fundraising.

Laura Hill, Laura Adams, and Whitney Greene, co-captains, commented on the season, “On behalf Dr. Beverly Mitchell, Director of the Stanford Cancer Institute, all of the Stanford cancer researchers who receive vital grant support from the LLS, and our many, many patients who are supported by the LLS – our profound thanks and appreciation to the Team Stanford participants for their dedication, hard work and commitment on so many levels throughout this season. It’s an honor to be part of such an inspiring group.
